Grabbing, Snacking and Munching.

Hi there,

Have you ever noticed? That there are thousands of vegetables and fruits that gives us an adequate and perfect amount of micronutrients as well as macronutrients and are mouthwatering when cooked in a creative way. But we still crave for street food or packed food. It has become our routine to grab a burger or a packet of chips and soda when we are running late or just bored.

The western diet is spreading throughout the world. Isn’t it weird that we spend much more money on a pizza then on a banana? Which is more healthy? This is the time in which just to satisfy our taste buds we have forgotten to satisfy our gut. According to us the taste is becoming priority over our health.

Due to the fast life style, the fashion of grabbing, snacking and munching is becoming trending day by day. It is spreading worldwide. “I’m already running late for work what should i have for my breakfast?” BRAIN- just grab a burger from mcd and some fries too maybe an ice cream float. Snack it up on the way to office. Can’t eggs get boiled while you are taking a shower? Do we really need 3-4 hours to warm milk?. This is not the end. “I don’t know how to cook, I’ll order it from the nearby restaurant” and it goes on.

Moreover the junk food may contain more calories than vegetables but the nutritional content in those calories is zero or very minimum therefore such calories are empty calories. An average human being needs approximately 30% of calories from proteins, 30% of calories from fats and 40% of calories from carbs of the total calories intake per day for a healthy and fit life. These conditions are not at all fulfilled by the junk.

Junk food mainly consist of unsaturated fats and simple carbs. And both the macronutrients are important for our body but in an adequate amount and the right ones.

Remember that fats can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Saturated fats such as ghee, butter, extra virgin olive oil, egg yolk, etc are good fats and are our best friends and unsaturated fats such as trans fats, all kinds of processed vegetable oils, corn oil, etc are bad fats and our worst enemies. And isn’t it strange that all good kinds of fats exist in nature as it is, and all the unsaturated fats are man made? All the processed food contains unsaturated fats in the form of vegetable oils or trans fats.

Carbohydrates are also as important and healthy as proteins but it is important to selection and correct intake of carbohydrate. Carbs are used for energy and also add fiber to our diets. Simple carbs found in soft drinks, sugar candies, sweets, etc are high in glycemic index scale. Complex carbs are basically all plant based foods such as beans, lentils, sweet potatoes, etc and are low in glycemic index. In short take carbs which are low in glycemic index scale.

So instead of following so called cool trends of grabbing, snacking and munching isn’t it real cool to eat healthy? Isn’t is cool to consume nutritional calories than the empty ones?
